MondouCu Foster Breeding Program

While we would love to keep all of our breeding dogs here, the reality is that it’s simply not practical to grow and maintain with only the two of us.  Sure we could, and perhaps someday will, bring in someone from the outside, but for now that’s not an option we are looking to pursue.  So, in order to expand our breeding program while maintaining the individual attention to each and every one of our breeding dogs, we have implemented a foster breeding program.

Our foster breeding program allows for some of our breeding dogs to live with a family within a 50 mile radius of us and to live in a family environment.  The program affords for a family to have an excellent quality German Shepherd Dog at a minimal initial cost.  The “job” of the foster family is to raise, train and maintain the foster breeding dog while the dog is in the foster family’s home.  Training, daily care, feeding, and veterinary care are the responsibility of the foster family.

We are responsible for testing and evaluating the dog for our breeding program.  When the foster dog is 18 - 30 months, he/she will have essential veterinary tests and temperament evaluations which will determine the dogs suitability for our breeding program, if the dog is determined suitable then the dog will enter our breeding program.  If it is determined that the dog is not suitable for our breeding program, the ownership of the dog will be transferred to the foster family at that time.

A dog in our foster breeding program is: Maintained as an intact animal.  Maintained in proper weight and available for breeding as determined by MondouCu.  If the dog is male, he will be transported by the foster family to & from MondouCu for a period of 4 days for breeding.  If the dog is female, she will be transported to & from MondouCu at the beginning of her season and will remain with MondouCu through her season (typically 3 weeks) to either be bred or maintain her during her season.  She will be returned to the family at the end of her season. If the female has been bred, she will be returned to MondouCu for palpitation part way through her gestation for a short visit and then 1 week prior to her due date she will return to MondouCu for preparation of whelp.  The female will remain with MondouCu until the puppies are 8 weeks at which time she will return to the foster family. All costs associated with breeding/whelping are the responsibility of MondouCu.

A family who maintains a foster breeding dog for MondouCu through the life of the dog will be gifted a puppy when the foster breeding dog is retired or reaches 8 years of age (which ever comes first). Males usually retire between 8-10 years while females usually retire between 6-8 years. When the dog is retired his/her sole ownership will be transferred to the foster breeding family.  This is ONLY applicable to families that fulfill the commitments of lifetime foster breeding homes.

For more information please submit your application and be certain to include in the notes your interest in being a foster breeding home. Make certain to have three (3) reference letters 1 from a veterinarian, 1 from a family member who is not a member of your household and 1 from a friend regarding your ability to maintain and care for an intact dog sent to our email address. We require an on site visit.
