FAQ’s

Q.     How much are your dogs?

A.     Puppies usually start at $1000.00 and depending upon limited/unlimited contract conditions, spay/neuter contract conditions, etc. and typically “top out” at $1500.00. Hold fee is 1/2 the price of the pup with the other 1/2 due at 6 weeks of age. Occasionally we have pups that do not “stack up” to all of our expectations, when this happens, these pups are available at a reduced price and are not available with breeding rights. Additionally, these pups are not covered by our health contract.

Q.     What does “pack trained” mean?

A.     As trainers, we recognize that the German Shepherd, like all other canines are social or “pack” animals.  As such, we run a pack. The “pack” is NOT left to their own devices, running wild and mating profusely or indiscriminately. We do not have bloodbaths over prey, status, or reproduction.  We are the alphas of our pack.  Our dogs do have and utilize their own crates (dens) as well as have individual time with us, however we have found that the “pack” method of teaching, learning and socialization is the best method for raising pups and young adults.  Our pups are NOT isolated to a run or spare room with only their mother until they are ready to go to their new homes.  Our pups are raised with and learn basic  manners (canine and human) via our reinforcement, and from other members of the pack (males and females) of various ages to ensure that they have received the fundamental lessons of how to get along with humans and other animals.

Q.     Can I come and visit your pack & see the pups?

A.     Guests, visitors, and other “non- familiars” are welcome to come and meet our dogs, and spend time with them on a 1:1-3:1 basis. A “stranger”, however, does not normally “drop in for a visit” with a separate, cohesive family unit.  The German Shepherd Dog is, by nature, a family/flock guardian. From their point of view, a stranger, if not properly introduced, is an intruder upon their home.

Guests and visitors are welcome to come to meet mom (and usually dad), puppies, and other family/pack members. Friends (you will know when you become one), are always welcome!

For the safety of our young pups, please DO NOT visit us within 48 hours of contact with potentially sick or diseased animals, including visiting the vet, humane society, animal shelter or another breeder who may or may not hold high standards of cleanliness. Sanitation is required.  Please pay attention to your attire, wear clothing and shoes that will not be “ruined” by bleach water (T-shirt, Jeans, and boots/shoes are generally a safe bet).

Q.     I would like a trained personal protection dog, could you do that for me?

A.     Although we “could” we will not.  Trained personal protection dogs are a liability under state guidelines.  You are welcome to apply to join our training club and (if accepted) train your own dog with us, but we believe that an initial level of rapport, respect and understanding must first occur between human and canine. We will not “protection train” a highly intelligent canine for a novice handler.

 Q.    Do you offer stud service?

A.     Occasionally we breed with other breeders that we know and our dogs are familiar with females. We no longer stud our dogs to an outside female as a general rule.  If you would like to use one of our males for stud service, please contact us so we can determine compatibility and strengths.

Q.     What lines do you breed?

A.     Working lines and show lines, West German, East German, Czech, Swiss, Canadian, etc...etc. In a nutshell, we breed American Working Line German Shepherds.   There is definitely more work involved to trace the genealogy (pedigrees), the strengths and potential faults, but we do the work, before we breed a pair.  Our dogs are healthy, live long productive lives and are well suited to the home or working environment they are in.

If you are looking for a full DDR dog, we can give you the number of a great breeder. Same goes for W. German Show Line, W. German Working Line, Canadian Show, Canadian Working, American Show, and the list goes on. From our perspective, and in the world of genetics, you CAN get TOO MUCH of a good thing.  We believe that diversity strengthens.

We breed well balanced, genetically sound dogs, who are great companions and working partners, dogs who are intelligent problem solvers, level headed hard workers, dogs who rarely pull up lame or become ill, dogs with hearts of gold whose presence is awe-inspiring.

Q.     What food do you recommend?

A.     To make things very simple... we don’t have dietary requirements!  Kato - our foundation male and Kiaya - our foundation female are GENETICALLY healthy. Kato is now 11, still playing like a 2 year old with wisdom. Our dogs are healthy and happy and we DO NOT NEED to feed some “special food” to increase coat, have clear eyes, or see them in good health.  We only bring healthy dogs into our breeding program.  The ONLY supplement we give is vitamin C and that is because we understand the need for it in the diet.  Don’t be fooled by all of the supplement hype out there - it makes more sense to spend a little more on a healthy dog or puppy than it does to need “special foods and supplements” throughout the dogs life. Ultimately the difference in a well bred healthy dog that doesn’t need some special food costs you about $3600.00 in food over a 12 year life span... you make your decision.

As breeder/trainers it is our obligation to breed German Shepherds of sound minds. It is also our obligation to the breed to eliminate qualities that we find offensive.

We are ALWAYS reviewing pedigrees of outside dogs that will compliment our dogs.

We are ALWAYS open to and speak with other breeders regarding inherent traits of the German Shepherd.

We DO NOT breed dogs that produce neurotic pups. Neurotic dogs ARE NOT acceptable German Shepherd Dogs.

As trainers we provide breeder training throughout the USA to help other breeders create better German Shepherd Dogs.

When looking for a German Shepherd Dog, DO YOUR RESEARCH!!! We stopped breeding dogs with SO much drive that the average family cannot live with them.  Titles, although important, DO NOT indicate a dog that can live in your home.  DRIVE is something you MUST consider when bringing a dog into your home.  If you CANNOT commit to give your dog the outlet he/she needs, your dog WILL destroy your home and you WILL end up either making yourself crazy, your dog crazy, re-homing your dog, changing your life OR euthanizing your dog. YOUR OBLIGATION TO YOURSELF, YOUR FAMILY AND YOUR NEW DOG IS TO DO YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE ADDING A DOG TO YOUR HOME.

DO NOT purchase a dog from a pet store!  I will GUARANTEE you that the pet store WILL NOT be able to provide you with the support needed when there is medical, genetic or worse yet temperament issue that arises with your dog.

We will NOT bad mouth other breeders.  However, we will ONLY recommend breeders that have PROVEN to us that they will stand SOLIDLY BEHIND their contracts and have PROVEN to us that they have ETHICS.  Nothing is worse than to find a genetic problem in a dog and have the dogs breeder refuse to assist you.  A quality breeder SHOULD offer assistance when you are in your time of need. We OBVIOUSLY have dogs from other breeders and have been in this situation ourselves - we will NEVER strand our puppy parents when they need us.
