Our dear, beloved friends... we miss you as deeply as we loved you in life on earth, we think of you always and hold you in our hearts. We await the day when we enter the meadow to reunite with you forever in a world without heartache, pain and physical limitations. Until that day our friends... know you are loved and cherished.
With the deepest of love ~ your Moms.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Sgt. Kato Smoke Jr. ShaTaHa, TC, OFA Member of the GSDCA 13 Club
1998 ~ 2010
Died due to a broken heart... really, he did. Since the passing of Kiaya in 2009, he slid into a depression and all of the coaxing in the world would not bring his love to him, so we eventually had to say good-bye to our old friend, but good-bye is never forever and we know that he is happy playing with the love of his life. Until we meet again my friend, salute. ~ Mom

Quest’s Miss Kiaya Mist
2001 ~ 2009
My wonderful head bitch... oh how I miss you. Kiaya was the dog of my dreams and in an instant one cold January day... her fate was sealed while she and the other dogs were out playing in our three acre field. Her grandsons came careening down the hill and in the blink of an eye she was air bound. She crashed hard onto the frozen ground below her. Future x-rays revealed that the impact had broken one of her vertebrae at a point where nothing could be done. Of all moments in my life that if I had the power to reverse, that would be the ONE that I would reverse. Until we meet in the meadows my girl, keep track of those who come to play with you as you always did here on earth and watch over them for me. I love you always and will see you in time, may it pass in happiness for you. ~ Mom

MondouCu’s Lady of the Night
2003 ~ 2007
Words can never explain the pain we endure daily due to the death of Lady. She was not only a major part of our world, but she was a teacher of things that have become MAJOR keys in our breeding program. Lady suffered from Parvo when she was a pup and the first lesson (and the last lesson) she taught us was that although Parvo CAN be medically treated to keep a dog alive, it can cause lifetime damage that is irreversible. We were able to prove (through breeding Lady) that the issues that plagued Lady were not genetic - however that does not heal the wounds from enduring the problems. Lady IS the main reason that we maintain such a strict genetic health and temperament policy - yes, these issues were from an illness BUT there are German Shepherd Dogs all over the world that genetically have these issues and if they can be eliminated through careful breeding, then it’s our duty to do our best to eliminate them. It was once said to us that, “No one can love you, capture your heart and rule your world like some one who is mentally unbalanced,” and this was absolutely the truth with Lady. Life without Lady is hard - she was a dream with members of our family... however she was untrustworthy with everyone else. We miss you our beautiful Lady... and we know you are no longer plagued with the instabilities caused by Parvo. Run free our girl, in the meadows with Kiaya and your Papa Kato... and when the day comes for us to cross paths again, know that we love you and that we embrace you forever. ~ Mom

Sappho
1998 ~ 2007
Obviously NOT a German Shepherd ~ Sapphy was Lori’s Border Collie x Lab mix “rescue” that was by far the absolute best of the worst dogs you could ever imagine knowing. She was ever “dog owner’s” nightmare and “dog trainers” dream (only because she pulled every trick known to man... and you HAD to figure out how to get through her thick skull to fix her new problem). She was a garbage digging, poop rolling, counter-surfing, stench seeking missile, scared of fireworks, gunshots, clattering pans, thunderstorms, loud voices... she would submissive pee at all of the WRONG times and defiantly turn her head from you at all of the WRONG times. There was NO rhyme or reason to Sapphy, BUT she was amazing with children & adults - she would perform every trick under the sun for a treat and she was the cuddliest creature on the face of the planet, especially if she’d found some new stench to roll in. She was Lady’s best friend on Earth - perhaps that’s because they understood the confusion they both lived in mentally. Lori brought Sapphy back from the bring of death (cancer) once and when it re-surfaced... Lori decided that the fight was too much and she held Sapphy in her lap one Summer evening as Sapphy faded from this world as the evening sun set. For as much drama that surrounded this little girl, there is never a time that we would have traded knowing, loving and keeping her a part of our pack and our world... she left this world in the arms of her mom and will return there (hopefully without the stink) one day. We love you Sapphy! ~Moms

Maya
2001 - 2010
Another “Non German Shepherd” however, this girl was the most amazing girl and the main reason that MondouCu actually formed. Back in 2002, Lori was working full time and raising this wickedly smart dog. Maya was young and Lori’s former living arrangements had changed, affecting Maya’s life which spiraled her into major separation anxiety manifesting in nuisance barking... being Akita x Aussie Shepherd (with the high pitch of the Aussie when stressed) Maya nearly got Lori booted from her apartment with her antics while Lori was at work. So, Maya ended up at my house to be “watched” (not trained) and in the matter of 24 hours... that all ended - there was NO way she was staying with me acting a fool - she was TOO smart for that. So, dog trainer in me surfaced and we worked to correct Maya’s behavioral issues - she WOULD crate (or I would kill myself) willingly and without all of that crazy barking, she WOULD keep her feet on the floor - NOT on my table, she would NOT rip up carpets and other things of value and she would NOT roll over, play dead, shake or do ANY other “stupid dog tricks” that made me laugh hysterically until she would sit, stay, recall and down on command. After some work (and Lori’s trip to Hawaii) Maya had become much better - no longer seeking attention through negative behaviors, I was able to see all that Maya really was and IF there were ever the opportunity to get another one of “those Mutts” I would in a heartbeat. Sapphy was DRAMA and Maya was NOT - you couldn’t even say Maya was balanced, she was just aloof, stoic, intense and focused - she was always amazing to work and entirely reliable. She was a tracking fool (even with major hip dysplasia) and an awesome puppy nanny. As she aged and stiffened with old age - she would remove herself from everyone else’s world so as not to burden anyone. We really miss that girl and can’t wait to catch up with her again - with that drive and ambition that true dog lovers adore. Run, play and enjoy life without the limitations of the physical our girl - until we meet again, may you enjoy your freedom. Always, Moms.

Bose
2005 - 2007
There are some lessons as breeders that just SUCK and the lessons learned from Bose are exactly that. Bose came to live with us in fall of 2006. During her exceptionally short time with us we tried EVERY behavior modification method under the sun to direct her drive, but in the end... she was TOO prey focused to safely live in society. Although we called her breeder and asked her to take her back, we were NOT looking for money - we were told no and that we should put her in a rescue, something we refused to do as the dog had a history of “targeting, locking and loading” on children and young pups. She was unstable. Her bite was undershot and she was a true threat to society so we ended up having to have her put down. Of course, this reinforced our “stance” on the temperament of our breeding dogs. We will always remember Bose and hope that with the freedom from her body she has found inner peace and tranquility.

MondouCu’s Elder Denali Night Storm
2007 - 2009
I cannot write this without crying, so I am going to keep it very brief and to the point. Deni was killed one late fall evening - stolen from my life, my heart and my world before his time. He was EVERYTHING I wanted in a male and he was amazing. I don’t believe that souls of dogs who leave this earth prematurely wait for us in the meadow before the rainbow bridge, I believe they return to fulfill their purpose in our lives. We had just begun our life together when this tragedy occurred and I still mourn for him and miss him daily. I know deep in my heart he will return to me when I am ready... it’s only a matter of time. Until you find your way home my boy, may your soul dance, sing and rejoice... I love you. ~Mom

MondouCu’s Aine Dreamweaver
2004 - 2011
It’s so hard to say good-bye and even harder when you know that you have lost a treasure and loosing Aine was loosing a treasure. In late August, 2011 Aine died in the arms of her beloved boy due to respiratory failure. We are uncertain what the exact cause was, however the loss has been devastating ~ we do know however that it was an environmental issue and that we have done everything in our power to make certain that no other dog is ever taken from us due to an environmental issue. We love you and you have certainly woven dreams for all of us to remember you by. We look forward to your progeny continuing your legacy.
